Three main Italian syndicates with over 12 million members\u00a0sent\u00a0a joint letter to the Iranian regime\u2019s embassy in Italy on December 10, supporting\u00a0the recent\u00a0Iran protests<\/a>\u00a0and expressing\u00a0their concern over the Iranian regime\u2019s excessive use of violence against the protesters. The\u00a0syndicates and unions\u00a0were the Italian General Confederation of\u00a0Labour\u00a0(CGIL), the Confederazione\u00a0Italiana\u00a0Sindacati Lavoratori\u00a0(CISL) and\u00a0the Italian\u00a0Labour\u00a0Union\u00a0(UIL).<\/p>\n

Their\u00a0letter to the Iranian regime\u2019s embassy\u00a0supported\u00a0\u201cthe\u00a0Iranian people\u2019s recent protests<\/a>\u00a0against the gasoline price-hike and their desire to have democracy, social rights, decent income.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Iranian authorities\u2019 deadly crackdown on protesters has resulted in 250 death, 3700 wounded and thousands of arrests,\u201d the\u00a0letter\u00a0added.<\/p>\n

The Iran protests erupted in mid-November 2019 triggering the greatest and unprecedented crisis in the regime’s 40-year history. Protesters took to the streets in at least 191 cities calling for regime change. The regime has resorted to brutal repression, killing at least 1500 protesters and arresting thousands more, according to the main opposition group\u00a0People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI)<\/a>, otherwise known as the\u00a0Mujahedin-e-Khalq (MEK)<\/a>. It also shut down Iran\u2019s internet completely for a week, blocking images of the protests from reaching the outside world.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Italian General Confederation of\u00a0Labour, CGIL, the Confederazione\u00a0Italiana\u00a0Sindacati Lavoratori, CISL, the Italian\u00a0Labour\u00a0Union or UIL, express their sympathy with the family members of victims and demand the immediate and unconditional release of all the political prisoners, who were arrested during the Iran protests and including youths and workers,\u201d read the\u00a0letter.<\/p>\n

\u201cCGIL, CISL and UIL syndicates, along with the International Confederation of Trade Unions will continue supporting the Iranian people\u2019s legitimate demands respecting human rights and union\u2019s rights,\u201d the unions declared.<\/p>\n

They also urged the Iranian regime to \u201cdeal with the roots of people\u2019s frustration and social unrests in compliance with the international law.\u201d<\/p>\n
